WOMENS LEADERSHIP ALLIANCE EDUCATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

The Women’s Leadership Alliance has been diligently working since its official inception in December 07. Sub-committees were formed to plan specific events and programs throughout the year. Each sub-committee is co-chaired by members of the Executive Team. There are three subcommittees including Educational Forums, chaired by Amy Sloan and Nicole Gesh; Mentoring Program, chaired by Carol Gordon and Gloria Cukar; and Tabletop Showcase, chaired by Jennifer Dunn and Darlene Marker. Each sub-committee is supported by Alliance member volunteers. There are currently 130 Alliance members including the executive team and chamber staff.
The Alliance’s first event will be a Symposium on sales and marketing on May 20th at Marist College. This event will feature experts in the field of marketing representing all forms of media. This symposium is designed to help Alliance members to be more successful with their sales and marketing efforts. This is a unique opportunity to learn from the experts and have direct access to their knowledge via a moderated question and answer format.
In the fall a Tabletop Showcase event will be held to help promote Alliance member businesses, products and services. This event will be held at the Fishkill Holiday Inn on September 9th. This event will also feature a Keynote Speaker on Work Life Balance. All chamber members are welcome to attend this event.
The Mentoring Program sub-committee is anticipating launching a pilot program in September. This program requires a lot of planning and support, so the committee is taking the necessary time to plan the program in phases to ensure its success.
To keep chamber members informed of upcoming events and activities the Alliance is committed to communicate formally through a quarterly newsletter as well as quarterly informational meeting. The next informational meeting will be held during the breakfast hour of the Sales and Marketing Symposium on May 20th and the next quarterly newsletter is scheduled for June.
If you are interested in joining the Alliance or are already a member and want to get involved in one of the sub-committees please contact the Alliance chair, Carol Heady at 845-226-8047.

BUSINESS AFTER HOURS/TABLETOP EXPO

Don’t miss the vendor fair and collaboration conference of the year! The May 28th Business After Hours from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Fishkill will feature Chamber and Membership Alliance member businesses consisting of five employees or less. Come see who makes up the Dutchess County Business climate and find out about their products and services.
Remember, attending an industry trade show - even during a down economy - can be the best vehicle to obtain knowledge and receive ideas that can help you make educated decisions on how to help your company move forward.
Here are some additional reasons to attend: according to EXPO Magazine, a potential customer’s interest in buying a product or service is approximately 34 points higher for an attendee who interacts with a company representative at an expo as opposed to consumers who had no previous interaction with that business.
EXPO Magazine also touts the importance of talking to a prospective customer as it makes an emotional connection and increases the likelihood of a purchase. Additionally, viewing an exhibit enhances brand perception significantly. This is a win-win event for exhibitors and for attendees.
This event is sponsored by Embroid Me, The Holiday Inn Fishkill, and PAMAL Broadcasting.
